Description يُحكى أنّ نوح، بعد الطوفان، سأل ابنه أن يبني هيكلًا يشبه الفلك، في وسطه مذبح تشتعل فيه نار لا تنطفئ، وأن يجمع فيه تسعة رجال يسمّون 'رفاق الفلك'. نفّذ الابن الوصيّة، ومضت السنوات والفلك على حالها، إنّما رفاق الفلك على تغيّر: فبدل أن يكتفوا بما هو ضروريّ، جمعوا أملاكًا، وذهبًا، ومالًا، وتحوّلوا كهنة منكبّين على حماية قشور الدين وسطحية كهنوته. ثمّ حدث أن توفّي أحد الرفاق، فطرق باب الفلك شابّ طلب من أن ينضمّ إليهم. رفض المسؤول ناقضًا تقاليد الفلك، وما عاد عن رأيه إلّا ليضمّ الشابّ إليهم خادمًا وليس رفيقًا. بحلول الشابّ على الفلك، حلّت معه الوفرة... ولعنة أخرست المسؤول وسمّرته إلى أرض الهيكل. Biographical note وُلدَ المفكّر والقاصّ والشاعر ميخائيل نعيمه في بسكنتا عند سفح صنين عام 1889. تابع دراسته في فلسطين ثمّ في أوكرانيا الروسية، قبل أن يستقرّ في الولايات المتحدة حيث نال شهادة في الآداب وأخرى في الحقوق وأسّس مع بعض مجايليه من أدباء المهجر «الرابطة القلمية». عام 1932، عاد إلى بسكنتا حيث قضى وقته في الكتابة ولقِّب بـ «ناسك الشّخروب» لما اتّسم به نتاجه الأدبي من نزعة تصوّفية ورؤية فلسفية. توفّي عام 1988 عن 99 عامًا بعد أن أثرى المكتبة العربية بعشرات الكتب في مختلف المجالات الأدبية والفلسفية والشعرية.-Based on Sufi philosophy, this novel is full of myths and metaphors in its presentation of moral and spiritual situations, which Naimy delivers through the voice of his imagined protagonist Mirdad. The latter joins eight monks in a temple at the foot of a mountain they call The Ark that was built by Sam, Prophet Noah’s son, to be a second model for the ship in which humans survived the first flood. Led by Shmadem, the role of the monks was to teach people the philosophy of their existence and how to escape from a worldwide flood. But Shmadem had drifted away with his stellar teachings towards materialism and luxury. This is what Mirdad will notice and address when he joins the eight monks, by recalling the spiritual and moral constants, through his book that deals with the topics of worship, morals, love, self, life and death, and is always waiting for someone to find it after a long journey of hardships while ascending towards The Ark, on his way to enlightenment.
